Course description

The aim of the course is to deepen the competences (knowledge and skills) acquired by the qualification education and to prepare a general nurse, midwife or paramedic to obtain a special professional competence, i.e. the insertion of an implantable venous port (PORT) and the provision of associated nursing care for clients with the PORT, peripherally implanted central venous catheter (PICC) and midline venous access (MIDLINE).

Content of the course

The course graduate performs the following without professional supervision and on the basis of a doctor's indication:
Specialized nursing care of the implantable venous port (PORT), peripheral implanted central venous catheter (PICC) and MIDLINE - treatment and administration of medications.
The course graduate performs the following without professional supervision and without a doctor's indication:
Procedures for the treatment of the entry (PORT, PICC, MIDLINE) into the bloodstream with regard to the prevention of healthcare associated infections; education of patients and their relatives (or other persons) in the care of the inserted PORT, PICC and MIDLINE and prepares information materials for them; planning and implementation of nursing care with regard to the prevention of complications related to the inserted medium or long-term venous catheter.
