Apply

The Embassy of Japan in the Czech Republic facilitates several types of scholarships for Czech citizens offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT). Citizens of other countries need to submit applications for scholarships to the diplomatic missions of Japan in their respective countries of citizenship.

These prestigious scholarships grant successful candidates the means to study in Japan with proper administrative and financial support (the Japanese partneer also covers one round-trip plane ticket) and allow them to fully dedicate themselves to their studies. The multi-year programmes also include intensive language training.

When an open call is announced, the Embassy of Japan in Prague will organize the selection procedure. The first step of the selection procedure consisted of written tests in Japanese, English which took place on a date specified by the Embassy. The candidates who pass the written tests will be invited for interviews, successful candidates will then be recommended by the Embassy for the scholarship award. The last step of the selection process takes place in Japan, where the respective MEXT committee makes the final decision. The final results may not be known until 2026. Successful candidates will start their stay in Japan in April or October 2027.

In the past, additional docmentation had to be submitted with the nomination of candidates to the Japanese partner, as specified by the scholarship provider (MEXT) and its representative in the Czech Republic – the Embassy of Japan in the Czech Republic. The exact conditions will be known once the open call for 2026 is announced.

The scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan (MEXT).
