Summer courses for international students are organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia in cooperation with local universities. The courses are thematic and subject-specific, often focusing on different aspects of Latvian culture and history. Summer courses often include an accompanying events, such as guided tours, visits to museums and sights, movie nights and theatre performances.
In previous years, the summer courses were held by the universities in the cities of Daugavpils, Rezekne, Riga and Valmiera. The choice of the preferred host university is up to the applicant. The summer school offer for the given calendar year is usually published at the beginning of the year. For reference, a list of summer courses offered in 2024 is available.
Applicants submit their application for a specific summer course between 1 February and 1 April of a given calendar year. The required documents (usually: application form, CV, motivation letter in English) need to be sent directly to the organiser of the specific summer school, i.e. the particular Latvian university. Each summer school has specific requirements regarding the application form and required documents. The organiser will notify applicants of the outcome.
