The summer language courses for international students are organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria in cooperation with local universities. The programme usually includes intensive language lessons (focusing on grammar and phonetics practice, vocabulary development, conversational skills, etc.) or a series of lectures on culture, history, literature and local realia. Before the course begins, students are usually divided into study groups according to their language skills, usually on the basis of a placement test. Classes, led by experienced native speakers, are often combined with an accompanying events consisting of guided tours, visits to museums and monuments, film evenings and theatre performances.
The summer courses of Bulgarian language are organized by the Sofia University of St. Clement of Ohrid and the Veliko Tarnovo University of St. Cyril and Methodius. Both courses are held on similar dates in July. The choice of the preferred host university is up to the applicant.
In the first phase, applicants apply to the Czech partner – the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MoEYS). Applications including required documents (see below) need to be submitted through this portal by the deadline (see below). The MoEYS will confirm whether the applicant will be included in the list of nominated candidates. The final decision on the acceptance of the nominated candidate rests with the foreign partner. Final results of the application proceedings will be announced by the foreign partner at the end of May.
Participation in the summer courses is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria.
The scholarship consists of free participation in the course, accompanying events, accommodation and meals. The scholarship holders do not receive any payments.
