The summer language courses for international students are organised by the Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport in cooperation with local universities. The programme may include intensive language classes (focusing on grammar and phonetics practice, vocabulary development, conversational skills, etc.) or a series of lectures on culture, history, literature and local realia. Before the course begins, students are usually divided into study groups according to their language skills, usually on the basis of a placement test. Classes tought by experienced native speakers, are often combined with an accompanying events, such guided tours, visits to museums and monuments, film evenings and theatre performances.
The Slovak partner usually provides details of the courses held in the particular year in April.
The scholarships are allocated to Masaryk University based on quota, and are filled by the Rector's Office of Masaryk University. The scholarship awards have to be approved by the Slovak partner; the results are usually communicated not earlier than the end of May.
The scholarship is funded by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic.
Schollarship applications are submitted here through the portal Studujnavs.gov.cz. Selected candidates will then receive a unique registration code from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MoYES), which they will use for submitting their online application at slovak.minedu.sk. MoYES sends out the codes during April and the deadline for completing the online application is usually the end of May. Applicants who submit the online application will then be contacted by the Studia Academica Slovaca (SAS) summer course coordinators.
The scholarship is used to cover the participation in the course and in the accompanying events, as well as the cost of accommodation and meals. The scholarship holders do not receive any payments.
