The Barrande Fellowship Programme (hereinafter referred to as the programme) was established in 2019 to create and develop cooperation between Czech and French universities and research institutes and to support the scientific careers of PhD students. The programme provides selected PhD students with a financial contribution to conduct their research projects in a partner country - France or the Czech Republic. The selection procedure takes place once a year, scholarships are awarded by decision of the bilateral committee (representatives of the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic), which is guided by the recommendation of expert panels. Each year, approximately fifty applicants apply for the scholarship, and the number of scholarships awarded is usually between 25 and 30 (depending on the financial possibilities of the programme in a given year).
The programme supports two types of fellowships:
(1) short-term research stay (1 to 3 months),
(2) a doctoral degree study under the joint supervision, the so-called cotutelle (maximum 3 years, the scholarship holder receives a scholarship for 5 months each year).
Before applying, we recommend reading the application guidelines.
The scholarship is funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic.
